Delta Moon at Blind Willies was the place to be Friday night!

When the sweet tunes are blaring through the speakers one cannot help but be drawn through the doors of the finest blues club Atlanta has to offer, Blind Willies. A mainstay in the Virginia Highlands area of town since 1986, some of the best musicians have been on stage at the cozy little bar. This past Friday (12/16/11) night Delta Moon, one of the best local bands Atlanta has to offer, rolled through multiple sets of tunes that would have made Muddy Waters proud.

Tom Gray and partner in crime Mark Johnson continue to show why they may be the best guitar tandem around. All through the night they played off of each other, taking every tune to a new level. Their double slide attack on the classic “Goin’ Down South” was one of many highlights of a killer evening of tunes.

Delta Moon started early and ended late, treating the crowd to some of their best songs such as “Hellbound Train”, “Jessie Mae” and “Tiltawhirl”, some tunes off their upcoming new album and some sweet classics by the likes of Mississippi Fred McDowell & R.L. Burnside. These guys had the crowd eating out of their hands with each note. As the joint filled up, holding a hell of a lot more people than it looked possible, the crowd got rowdier. With each tune more folks jammed up to the stage to shake what the good lord gave them as the sweet tunes flowed from the speakers. The night went from a nice night of blues music to a down and dirty juke joint throw down pretty damn quick.

Everyone there was treated to one hell of a night of tunes, a great early Christmas present. Keep an eye out next year for their new album; it should be a welcome addition to their already impressive catalog of tunes.
